Types of Engine Repair and Services
Not sure what services you need for your engine? We will inspect and diagnose your vehicles to determine the root cause of the issues and recommend the best course of action. If you already know what you need repaired, we’ll still perform an inspection to ensure we address the correct issue. Here are some of the most common repairs and services we provide at Smith Auto:
Cylinder Head Gasket Replacement
If you notice that your vehicle’s engine is overheating frequently or experiencing a loss of coolant without any visible leaks, it may be a sign that it’s time to replace the cylinder head gasket. Another indicator is white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe, which could mean that coolant is leaking into the combustion chamber. Additionally, if you notice a milky substance on the underside of the oil cap or in the engine oil itself, this could indicate coolant contamination due to a faulty cylinder head gasket. A decrease in engine performance, such as misfires or a lack of power, can also be the result of a failing cylinder head gasket.
Oil Pan Gasket Replacement
If a vehicle’s engine starts leaking oil, it may be time to consider replacing the oil pan gasket. The oil pan gasket is a critical component that seals the oil pan to the engine block, preventing oil from leaking out. Over time, the gasket can deteriorate due to heat, age, and constant exposure to oil. As a result, oil leaks may occur, leading to various issues such as decreased oil pressure and potential engine damage.
Valve Cover Gasket Replacement
If you have an oil leak and notice the valve cover is soaked, it’s likely time for a valve cover gasket replacement. You’ll find the valve cover gasket between the engine and valve cover to seal the oil inside and prevent it from leaking. Like many engine parts, the valve cover gasket is made of rubber or plastic and over time will dry out or crack.
